Even before buying/introducing new fish to the fish tank, my pleco has very visible areas of skin which are shed, revealing lighter skin.

Sheds of his skin can be seen floating around in the tank.

As far as swimming is concerned, he is okay but usually his fins are up, now its more usually down.

    He still eats as usual.

    Worried about infection.
Should I give antibiotics or any other treatment?

We probably need more details like diet, the type of filtration, the pH of the water etc to give you good advice.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Could be natural colouration... I had a pleco like that once... Grew to a ripe old age(is 6yrs old?) before the dog ate it...

pH test strips are okay. The pH is average slightly below 7. The tank is clean so I doubt ammonia content is high...

Was suggested melafix by another forum based in the US, is it avail. in singapore? Or is there any other that help with fin rot/ bacteria?
