i would think that the males and females look the same
sexual dimorphism in gourami aren't that obvious externally

I learned not to trust words of fish shopkeepers 100%. But I guess you don't too when you ask this here.
Here is a link which you may find helpful.
I think dwarf gouramis are the ones with pale looking females.

sorry
differences
i find differentiating dwarf gourami based on colour alone is pretty much hit and miss
t. pumilis have identical sexes except for the ovaries, for example
body shape is a better way, also mentioned in bc's link
Go to the "My tanks" gallery and have a look at my tank pics. In the full pic you see 5 gouramis. Its not very clear, but the 2 foremost fishes are males. The other 3 are females.
Male pearl gouramis have a bright orange throat, longer fins and the anal fins have "threaded" edges. The female pearl gourami, I think, its not that dull, they still have the pearly scales.
Anyway, I managed to find the females at a fish farm in the Lor Halus area. Can't remember which one though.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
I think ah, if I remember correctly, some of the farms at Lorong Halus are now carrying pearl gouramies, so do pop in to take a look.
