so far no luck with cleaner shrimps. always die.
1st case, bought 3 from jln kayu for $10. Thot it was a steal.
but alas, after few days, they died 1 by 1.
2nd case, bought 1 from reborn for $8, also died after few days.
    All couldn't find their corpses.

Currently have 2 boxer & 1 fire shripms, doing fine for a month liao.

    What could be wrong?

    pls help advice, thanks!

Most of the time is due to aclimisation. Did u do use the drip method?

Also possible, your boxers are aggressive to it.

    Cheers

Hi JC, boxers unlikely as they were intro b4 boxers & fire.
    What's a drip method?
What I usually do is, float bag 15 min, then slowly mix the tank water into bag. Done over 3~4 times in another 15 min.

    Hi Justikanz, what's a fauna?

    Thanks guys!

I meant to ask, what are the other animals in your tank?

Eh... Aren't you supposed to match the SG of the water inside the bag and your tank before you release the animals??

    I have 3 clowns, 3 gobies, 1 coral beauty, 1 green chromis, 1 cardinal, 1 urchin, 2 polyps, 1 mushroom, 1 clam, 2 boxers, 1 fire shrimp, 1 hermit

By doing the mixing the bag with tank water a few times (after temp balance), doesn't this bring the bag's SG same as tank?

Drip is basically let the tank water drip drop by drop till there are >2 times the original water in the bag. Cleaner shrimp tend to be more sensitive.

Thanks JC! Will try this method next time.
Probably due to its sensitivity, coupled with my mass water mixing!

Can I say that if the cleaner shrimp makes it for, say 1 week, its survival rate will be ok?

Is it normal for cleaner shrimps to be short lived (ard 6 mths)?

JC, currently I add & monitor only KH & calcium.
Was told that magnesium is also part of primary parameters to monitor.

    What's your take on this?

My tank is primarily a fish only tank, with only 2 polyps & a mushroom.

I'm sure cleaner shrimp can survive longer than 6 mths. Guess its husbandary skill that matters. Check out this link on cleaner. http://www.centralpets.com/animals/f...s/swi1834.html
"Temperatures for Cleaner Shrimp should remain in the upper 70 degree Fahrenheit (mid 20 degree Celsius) range. A pH value of 8.3 to 8.4 and a specific gravity measuring 1.024 should be maintained. Cleaner Shrimp often thrive when kept in groups. Hiding places should be provided, and are often utilized in the first day or two after a molt. Cleaner Shrimp normally get along with other shrimp of their genus."

Its a gd habit to monitor KH. Are u dosing kalk? If u are, u got to monitor ur calcium else I'll not be bother if there are only some buttons and mushroom. Both are pretty hardy.

    Cheers
    JC
