The female looks wild from my experience or maybe it's a different species. Never seen a female chicken like that before.
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

Female looks like the wild type...but the male is definitely not.. just a feral. You find these in the MacRitchie forests too.

And the inevitable question from me... Are chickens native to singapore? I seem to recall them being a purely domesticated species. Selectively bread from a species of ground fowl that existed a couple thousand years ago in europe..

Southeast Asia, including Singapore, is regarded as the origin of the wild chicken orjungle fowl (Gallus gallus) which produced the domestic chicken. The jungle fowl is much leaner compared to domestics and flies much better, the hen also has a more speckled, camouflaged pattern. Also, jungle fowl is NOT ayam kampung.

Unfortunately, the real jungle fowl is a rare, even endangered bird nowadays. Which is a shame, as domestic chicken breeds are so homogeneous and inbred, vulnerable to many diseases and genetic problems (as they are developed with maximising growth rates and weight yield). So if any epidemic should wipe out domestic birds, there would be no reservoir of hardy wild birds to rebuild the industry.

It's the same case with bananas actually. Virtually ALL cultivated (and those 'wild' growing) banana trees are clones of the early plants grown by men. How many times have you seen a banana seed? Well, the domestic banana is a mutant that was propagated vegetatively by men and now is a major cash crop that is ALSO prone to epidemics due to the lack of genetic variety. Meanwhile, the original wild banana (which is also thought to come from Southeast Asian rainforests) is virtually unknown, and possibly extinct.

mervin, great pix. very good contrast and saturation. any tweaking in PS? shot in RAW or JPEG, and what are your in-camera custom settings for sharpening, saturation, etc.

how come you don't keep EXIF in your pix?
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Musa bauensis? does it mean "smelly banana"?

Halamak.....Musa bauensis is named after "Bau" town of Sarawak.

Bau town is not smelly at all....it used to be a gold mining town....& of course...a lot of limestone hills were destroyed in order to dig the gold...another destruction of Mother Nature.

The male looks like a wild species too. Domestic rooster seems to be missing the white patch on the face.

Hi Choy, thanks for the kind comments.
they were shot in jpeg and unforunately i don't know why the EXIF is not store there, maybe because its a Jpeg ?

Yes there were some "adjustments" done, USM and some playing around with the levels.

Customs setting - all at "0".

Have not shot anything in RAw thgh Benny has been encouraging me, too much processing work and me rather lazy lah....

So have u bought yourself a DSLR yet ?

strange, EXIF should be in the JPEG by default. guess you should RTFM again. what software did you use to generate the display version?

yah got my cam already. same as yours and an EF 100mm Macro USM for fish shooting.
