looks like a caddis fly larva... they live underwater and build protective cocoons from debris. As far as I know, they don't prey on fish, unlike dragonfly larva. Try keeping it and see it if pupates.

Ahhhh... so sorry to mislead everyone . This critter is on land and not in the tank. Just wanted to see if fellow forumers can give me a lead.
then it should be some moth caterpillar. where did you find it?
On the floor of my hall. It is almost daily that I clear 1-2 of these cocoons. Suspect it to be moth too... but just don't understand what caused the attraction. My two fish tanks ....?????
