    Shrimp insecurity?

I just noticed some VERY surprising behaviour in my Macrobrachium malayanum. She'd lost her left pincer about 2 months ago and ever since then she's been hiding in the rocks and driftwood, generally keeping out of sight and only coming out after dark.

Now, 3 days ago she moulted and the lost grew back(half of it anyway). And after her shell hardened, i noticed her come running out of her hole and actually fighting off my pugnax to get at the food this morning!

What I'm wondering now is, did the combination of nocturnal behaviour and post moult behaviour make her hungry enough to attack a fish twice her size? Or is she suddenly aware that she has 2 pincers now and doesn't feel as defenseless?

    Interesting behaviour just the same

Shrimps understand that they are in danger of being eaten if they are defenseless and when they are preparing to molt or when molting... They will hide and stay away... Nature... Probably went back to old behaviour after molting...

Still, it's amazing that the shrimp understands that it's safer with both claws... then again, it could just be an instinct. but impressive none the less =)
