Malaysians will not be able to see the Ang Lee-directed movie Brokeback Mountain which just won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture-Drama. Well, what to do? (I think they ban it because the movie is talking about the gay relationship)

I think the country is not as liberal on some issues. But Malaysia is probably not the only country that bans the movie.

To be honest, what would you prefer? Ban or censor?

    Cheers,

By the way, M'sians also can watch that movie by buying pirated DVD or VCD. It's too easy to get it in Pasar malam in M'sia.

And probably faster than the big screen too. The irony of it all.

    Cheers,
I prefer the freedom to chose, so neither a ban nor censorship is an option for me.

Some in Uath in the USA are not playing it either.
Scared of tough gay men with ropes I guess
Heck, they showed Pulp fiction, gay rape, S&M and bondage.
    But this causes an issue?

Hehe, never came to the lounge until recently. Such interesting discussions here, very much surprised, thrilled...

Watched the 'pasar malam' version (should we endorse piracy? ) recently.
Needless to say, cried my hearts out....or am I just being a tad too sensitive. Great movie, not the least controversial, challenges our perceptions and norms.

Yeah, gay issues are a bit of a taboo here. Belief systems and all. Still, some of us do know people who are gay, and let me just say, if one would look past the stereotype and all, deep down they are just like everyone else.... Gay, straight...whatever... we are all human beings, all capable of true love no less.

BTW, is it going to be screened in Singapore? Wouldn't mind making a trip down south to watch it....
    Regards

Got dragged into seeing this movie with a friend. Gotta say it isn't bad at all and I don't watch this sort of movie. Saw it in Berkeley, of course.
