    hi guys,

i am currently tryin to fill my tank with japonica..
but it seems not to be doing well. Most leaves are slowly turning yellow..

i have inserted root monsters.. and even include dose of lush-grow Aqua liquid fert.. but it doesnt seems to help.

    I'm having a 2ft tank.. 36W 10000K light with CO2 turned on for abt 9 to 10 hrs.
    pH 6.5, kH 4.

wad could i be lacking? pls advise. Thanks alot.

What is your water temp? Also, do you see new leaves growing out from the middle? Those new shoots should be slightly copper. If yes, everything should be fine.
It's common for them to shed leaves when newly introduced into an aquarium. But they recover quite quickly.

If the new shoots are turning out yellow, then you lack nutrients. But if the new shoots are coming out fine, it just means the plant is sheding it's old leaves and adjusting itself to the new environment.
Your temp is absolutely perfect for plants! Chiller?

chiller? no la...my small tank..1.5feet, using the profantec fan, so easier to cool ba..keke
lack of nutrients? hmm..i dunno leh...coz my other plants are doing fine, eg. my red lotus, kept growing new shoots, HC crawling but slowly (it's pearling too). christmas moss wall, doing quite ok...growing
but just this japonica, doesn't seems doing well. Dunno why, leaves kept on dying off, turning yellow, but new shoots kept growing out in the middle but like wat u said, it's coppper in colour

Well, you can rule out temp, I had it with very high temps in FL.
I never run heaters unless the fish demand it, so the cold end is also niot an issue for this one either,.

    If it's doing poorly: NO3 or CO2.
99% of the time, that will be the issue.

Don't need to worry too much... Japonicas take some time to get used to the tank conditions. They will only grow side shoots when there is sufficient CO2 and NO3. Else, it would just grow up slowly.

At least 55W imho. I use 72W. Both cases I recommend CO2 injection.

    Sword_tail,

If you haven't dose your KNO3, do so.

Just to share my humble experience. I have Blyxas growing in 2 different tank conditions.

One is in the shrimp tank (1.5feet tank, 11W + 18W PL, approx +-1.9W/G, No CO2, ) and the other in a high tech tank (3feet tank, 2x 55WPL, approx. +-2.6W/G, CO2), using only root sticks and root monsters inserted in lapis sand.

The growth of the same plants in these two tanks are so different.
In the non-CO2 tank, my Blyxa has new leaves are only 1/3 the size of those in the 'high-tech' tank.
Same liquid fertilizers are used for both tanks (Lushgro Aqua and later switched to JBL Ferropol) and pinch of KNO3 every 2 days.

Its my first attempt on growing Blyxa and mine only flourish after I added KNO3. After initial planting, the older leaves will 'melt' but new growth should appear after a couple of weeks.
Just remove the melted leaves diligently.

In my case, my Blyxas had the copperish tint when the lights were shinning right above them but they develop greener leaves when I shifted the lightset from shining directly above them.

the redish leaves are normal...its like tenellus developing red leaves and why plants growing closer to the surface have red leaves..
its an NO3 issue...that is indirectly affect by light.

Hit this plant with NO3 and Co2.. It LOVEs LOVES LOVES that..

haha, agree light is an issue. no3 is also suspect... once your tank matures the plant will grow fast and becomes HUGE. annoying because it moves as the tuber grows. creates a big mess when try to shift it back to it original position. haiz....
