I am thinking of rescaping my tank.

This time i am thinking of putting a portion of the front with sand. Reason being that I intend to have some SA fishes in there. Fish selections should be Apisto, Heckels, cories, etc.

Apisto would love the fine sand. Anyone got any recommendation of any sand. I am scare that the normal river sand is high in K.

Off topics.. what are plants suitable for a South America Biotope ..

    nic,
for discus and apisto there are no plants in their "proper" biotopes...
its mainly drift wood and rotting leaves for the acidity with sand beds.
    they generally come from blackwaters.
having said that low-light plants will do well from the tainted colour.
but i remember reading in a thread about some PH lowering blackwater product that doesn't taint the water.
    not sure about corydoras.

Yup... No plants in blackwater biotopes... Discus, angles, festivums etc do great in drift wood/roots only. Tetras normally found with sand only!

Else, you can try Echinodoras spp.... Discus LOVE the big leaves... Vallis would be great as the discus would look good swimming through the leaves... Big-leaved Anubias would be good too.

    Seriously OT!!!

Wackytpt, there's 1 brand I tried before-Colisa Sand. But it's hell to wash it clean and you need to wash it.
