This one was caught from Johor but yes, the croaking gouramy is native to Singapore but unfortunately seldom available in the shops....

When I was a kid, there's this man who'd sell them for 5 cents a piece outside my school. The longer the anal fin, the more costly. Those that have anal fin extensions longer than the tail cost a whopping 50 cents! He'd scoop them from a pail with just his cupped hands and you'd bring it home in a disused condensed milk can. That was in 1973, but I digress.

Beautiful colouring Mr Tree. How did you manage to keep them at this colour without using blackwater?
    Warm regards,

    Lawrence Lee

Actually I realised that I can never bring out it's true color in captivity..these fish look a lot more nicer when they were first caught from the wild..the body was blueish green! And another thing, population from blackwater is more colorful the ones from white water.

Well you could try replicating blackwater conditions. I find my fish's color gets more intense when the general surroundings are darker and more acidic.
