Has anyone here shipped an aquarium overseas before? How'd you guys do it? I'm thinking of sending a small OceanFree/similar tank(one of those with the curved front) to a friend in America. Is it advisable?

How much does that thing weigh? I'm guessing it's going to cost you more than $100 in shipping, via just normal airmail.

You need to pack it real well, with styrofoam and a sturdy box. The volume metric weight calculation does not mater if your tank is empty inside. The cost will be a killer.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

The cost is a killer but the way it will be handle is more of a concern.

I was in the Post Office Q once and I saw a guy in front sending a crate of wine (6 bottles I think). Labels all over the paper and easily cost him close to $200!

If it's that Ocean Free bowfront one that comes with a cabinet, that's pretty heavy and needs careful packing. And I think the smallest is a 2ft.

It's an OCean Free tank, but it's the 45cm one. It's amazing what those guys are willing to pay for one of these... I bought mine for SGD$12 and my friend's got people willing to pay up to US$40-50 for it.

You need a few labels such as 'This Way Up', 'Fragile' and 'Glass'.

Unlikely to be cost effective to mail just one tank.
