an exceptional piece to me! Much better than my other one !

It is the kind of fish that cannot be found by deliberate search...only by chance..which was how i got it

What size was it when got it and at the time of pic?

Err, time to put the theory I read to work...

Nice spoon shape head, thick body and nice colour in finnage. Colour up to 4th row?

Well, theory or not, its a beauty. Congrats... []

    haha CM welcome to AquaticQuotient
this fish is still very much a juvenile and will develop more as it grows!

BFG, vinz, beauty is in the eye of the beholder..
there are many different preferences....so to me there is no such thing as a universal good aro.it is special to me coz it has all the characteristics i desire..and i emphasis a lot on body shape.

yeah Vinz you are right, spoon head (some ppl like some ppl dont), yes broad body and yes 4th level..have some specks on the 5th already actually.

In specific case of RTG, some ppl will desire the scales to climb as high as possible. But for myself, i prefer a RTG with dark top. It is either dark top RTG or x-back! no in-betweens for me. I am a purist thats why.

and dont bother abt "aro theories" i never believe in that. those are just what ppl like. See the fish for yourself. Buy the fish because you like the way it looks is the best

    Simon,

    Going for Aro too?

4th row of scales from bottom. Right at the top is sixth row.
when gold reaches 6th row, its a cross back... ie colour crosses the back.

dont bother counting from the stomach up haha

the single row right at the ridge/top of the fish is the 6th row.
then the 5th row is right below it, on both sides of the body
    and then 4th row.

normally the lowest ppl talk abt is 4th row lah

THe fish in H20 is a crossback. If you take a closer look next time, you can see that the scales have shine up till the fifth row already.
RTG colours on the other hand will not climb so readily and so fast (actuallly i feel that RTG colours are not meant to climb in the first place)

and also, generally speaking crossback gold is a lot more and intense radiant than a RTG's. of coz there will be super outstand RTG and so so crossbacks.

BTW RTG is the cheaper than crossback by at least 5 times haha

wait wait, getting confused.. u mean the number of scale depends the species? so where do u count the scales from? belly area?.. from the pic, I can see 4 rows but there is one with 5 rows?

LA i am not not aro expert!! you decide for yourself..
aros grow big, big commitment...need at least 4x2 for a lone fish..

    Simon..
actually all those back, RTG, red etc etc are all asian aros. Right now they are classified under same species

and yes, for asian aros, the "levels" of scales always end at 6th level right at the top/ridge of the fish. 6th row is a single row, where the next row down, which is 5th, is paired as they are on both sides of the fish.
then the next row down is 4th...and the number gets smaller as they approach the belly

normally the concern is from 4th-6th row all the rest no diff

    BFG,

Not from head to tail... same mistake I made at first. []
From top of body downwards in descending order. 6th Row is the row of scales right on top.

[] One more pt, I think it has thin frames, very the nice, hope they will remain thin when it grows bigger.

The scale with the lateral line is the 4th row. You can count upwards from that.
Most RTGs will only have the gold sheen up to max 5th level and does not cross over the 6th level of scales.
x-back of course will cross over when mature.

There is also the Panda gold (a RTG x X-back hybrid) that has an RTG price but a higher possiblity of "crossing over"... but that is another story
