Happiness is finding these cute little buggers.

The top pictures shows the occelated chocolate gourami (Parasphaerichthys ocellatus), which looks like a miniature version of the three-spot gourami. But when alarmed, the characteristic mottled pattern of chocolate gouramis appears. I got three (one dieded) from Bioplast, but there are several available at Mainland Fish Farm at Pasir Ris Farmway 1. Very perky little fish once acclimatised. Size about 3 cm.

The lower picture shows an undescribed pygmy chocolate gourami (Parasphaerichthys sp.). Tiny fellows about 1 cm in length. I got six from Mainland today for my 2 ft tank. Hope they make it, but some are munching on daphnia already.

    Next stop, liquorice gouramis!!!

pic 2 looked more like Betta sp. If it is undescribed, how do you tell it is from the Parasphaerichthys genus? [:0]

the second fish is definitely NOT a betta. The panic behaviour and colouration is classic chocolate gourami, although it's not in the same genus. Parasphaerichthys is the genus used for the so-called para or "false chocolate gouramis", which are similar to the real Sphaericthys genus but not quite. The use of "sp." simply means that it hasn't been scientifically described, but is currently placed within the P genus.
