Ok, the set I bought is the one similar in use at Gan's.

the problem is that i've so called "burned in " the bulb by using it at least several hours already. however, this weird behaviour is annoying me.

    a) sometimes it doesn't start up on a cold start.

    b) sometimes when its on for 1/2 hour or so, it will lights off. I'm not sure if its safe not to turn off the power at this point.

Is this behaviour normal? how long should I expect it to continue before it works like a charm.

It looks like a connection prob..... you may want to check the terminations are good. I think the top of the lamp is a connector. try pluging in and out a few times to have a better connection. Or better yet, bring it back to the vendor and complain to him'her your problem.
    Cheers!!

i will agree with sherwin on this one.......may be a fault in the electrical circuit. For an MH or even a VHO do not turn on and off like we do with normal FL or PL.....it needs about a 10 to 15 min rest period before the ignitor can fire up the MH.

behaviour seems to be like this.

I turn on , and it powers on for a while, then 1/2 hour, shut down,
I leave it on, (no lights) , after 15 minutes - 1/2 hour, lights up again.

and I think it'll stay on for a long time.

wat i trying to say is...there is a certain position a bulb must faced...there will be a nipple one the length of the bulb, that must face upwards.....this is one possibility. of course wat the rest said abt connection may also be the prob

nope. no extension. everything out of the box, although seems to be working fine now. maybe warm up/burn in period needed.

    who knows.

I'll test more over next week and see.

I've had this problem with my MH light before. Brought it back to the shop.
The shop guy checked the internal wires and found the wires connecting the bulb holder to the ballast loose.

If you're confident enough, check that 1st. Good luck!

I opened the control box and fidget with the wires, nothing loose. can it be the bulb itself?

yeah, I've noticed after more than 8 hours of running, it will, power up, light up, for 1 minute, then go out, sometimes it will stay lighted for longer like 1 hour + .

if I didn't know better, seems like got a thermostat inside. lol

    will get it replaced today.

replacement set is flawless. found out that its probably a set someone sent for repair and the distributor made a mistake and packaged it. cos the new set's cabling is different from the old one. (ie: different model generation).
