I had never had crypts in my tank before!
In a recent trip to C328, saw 2 beautiful pots and C.parva and deceided that might as well start with these!
Went home and soaked the pots of C.parva overnight!
Next day, when I took the plants from the pots, found that they are all joined together at the roots.

As I have no experience with crypts and I feel that it would be stupid to plant the whole pot together, I separated the pots into plantlets and planted them! (Dun even know with its the rite thing to do)

Now, days after i planted them, my C.parva are turning yellow!
Is this normal as I heard Crypts need some time to adapts and as they do so, they will melt!

    Pls advice!
    Thanks a million!

    Cryptocoryne parva... Sigh.

They will turn yellow, mine did. They're shedding their emersed leaves. C.parva is slow, therefore it's acclimatisation process is also slow. It's alright to seperate them. According to tropica you need to wait 6 months for a small cohesive lawn to be formed. According to people I've talked to they take longer than that to show even a small sign of growth.

The trick is to leave them alone and blast them with nutrients. It helps if you have big plant mass in that tank too, to deter algae because this plant is a magnet for BBA and greenspot in my experience.

C.parva is not recommended as a beginner crypt. You will often wonder why it stays there not growing or moving at all that you will think its probably dormant. Fact is this is one of slowest growing plant you can get your hands on. Suggest c.wendtii instead for a start.

I agree that it is not for beginners... I started out buying C. parva... Not knowing what the heck it is and the LFS owner also dunno... Only know is crypt... In the end after it melted off, I thought I was dead and dump it, leaving only 1 single stalk...

AFter nearly 5 months of EI, now only got 3 leaves to show for... Hahaha... With 2 of it with a bit of BBA and green spot... Hahaha....

Personally, I felt that crypts dislike water changes. They hate PH swings, temp change etc. My tank is about 4-5 years old without adding much additional roots monsters etc since 2-3 years back. Most of my crypts melted and are coming back stronger than ever and I had not change water for like the past 2 years

I'm growing some half emersed, with rich base fert and natural sunlight. Works wonders!

You need good nutrients (N,P,K, Ca/Mg...non-limiting) and good stable CO2 (30ppm with mist) and it should do well as long as you leave it alone like what the folks said.
