    Hi guys,

Any Nikon users around? Nikon has a great looking macro/micro lens!

    AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm F2.8G IF-ED

    Abstract from dpreview..

Amongst the flood of new digicams Nikon has announced this, the world’s first macro lens (offering reproduction ratios of up to 1:1) equipped with Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM) and Vibration Reduction (VR) systems. The AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED lens offers advanced optical features and technologies such as Nano Crystal Coat, Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass and Internal Focusing. For use with both Nikon DX format digital and 35mm film SLR cameras.

Finally someone makes a macro lens with IS technology. Time to jump ship!

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Available from Apr 2006, but no indication of price.

I'm tempted to pick up a D200 with this lens and their macro flash to try it out.

SWM + VR... I suspect it should be in the range of S$1800~2200.

Estimated prediction on the street price puts it at around the $800 mark (US$). This is very tempting and I'm just waiting for Nikon comes out with a price before I ditch my 105mm.

interestingly I have not had very good experience with Canon IS. Never tried Nikon VR though. Possibly SAF did a really good job on my hand-holding technique

Gonna be looking at this lens in the next two months. It's available over here in the states for $750 USD. I just sold my 105mm and will need something to fill it.

The VR on this lens is very promising for macro work.

actually I find that working at macro distance, it is not so much handshake (assuming sufficient available light or with flash) but the ability to keep the point-of-interest at critical focus. so I may hold the lens steady but the subject may be wind-blown, or my body sways.

of course we are precluding the use of tripod here. in any case you will not need VR if you use a tripod.

True. This will come in handy on the off times when the tripod is sitting in the car and can't be reached in a timely manner.
