    Hi all,

Recently I noticed that the number of my Yamatoes seemed to be dwindling. Maybe they are hiding but there is an incident which has alarmed me.

One fine day I came back to my room and I found a lizard at the edge of my aquarium! And it looked wet! The same lizard also likes to stay near my tank. Had caught it "bio-ing" (hokkien for looking with intent) at my fishes and shrimps.

Just want to ask whether anyone has the same experience or knows whether lizards pose a hazard to shrimps???

Haha... You really posted it eh... Like I mentioned, my dad did mentioned that lizards will eat fish... And my frog eats shrimps... So, I guess if the Yamatos were to venture too near the water surface... Heh heh... It might become lizard food!

Oh dear. Now then I know that the household lizard eats small fishes and shrimps. However, my 1 ft cube tank cannot cover due to having the HOF at the side. Any advice? Luckily still no sign of lizard in my house yet...

Hahaha, you guys got it too?!! My cherry shrimps population has dwindled already. I saw that the lizard would wait near the surface skimmer, waiting for the shrimp to approach the surface skimmer. But the lizard would dash away as it sense me.

I literally had hundreds of Cherry shrimp in a small two footer for a while, with a moss wall that came right to the water surface. One morning I found this “house lizard” floating dead in the tank that is near a permanently open window. I assumed at the time it wanted a drink and then couldn’t get out of the 5plan tank because of the black edging.

Maybe the lizard wasn’t drinking but dining instead!

ha ha.. Other than dealing with algae and other stuff, now we still have to worried about lizards makan our faunas

Wonder if there is a tried-and-tested method to keep the lizards away other than covering the tank which is not practical to some who has DIY-fans or HOTB filter.

i know lizards croak to attract small fish/shrimps to the water surface ... i've seen them perched nicely at the tank edge ready for a strike ... but do they really shoot out their tongue to catch them???

You mean house lizards also stick their tongues out to snarl their prey?! Wow... Though only chameleons (spelling?) do that...

House lizards ALWAYS hunt by their tongue, Valice... Just maybe they are too fast for us to see...

Heh... an arowana tank wouldn't have this problem.

Off topic: I found a dead adult cockcroach in my office planted tank once. Only the exo-skeleton was left. The insides were picked clean, probably by the yamato shrimps. Considering it's size, and abundant tall aquatic plants that allow it to stay above the water, I still wonder how the shrimps got to it. In it's final position near the water surface, it looked like it was trying to crawl down along a H. difformis stem. Guess it panicked.

Wouldn't it be nice if there's a video clip of the lizard in action, maybe install a CCTV

Well... if you want to handle the lizard problem you could get a cat. Just that you might end up with lizard shaped poop in the litter box... Or fish, should the cat take a liking to raw seafood

I once found a baby lizard tail in my tank. Guess it got hit by the fan!

I was wondering what a lizard would find interesting at the tank

Does the egg shell method really work?
    Won't it invite ants?

    Wash the shell first?
