Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.
brackishwater = freshwater with traces of salt
archer fish grow quite large - about 10 inches, so they need lots of space, and like freshwater butterflyfish, they like meaty live food (esp insects) that stay at the surface. Not a fish for the freshwater community tank.
A brackish water setup would be more suitable, and good tankmates would be monos, scats, gobies, mollies. Like marine setups, brackish water is hard and alkaline, so the risk of ammonia toxidity is high. So frequent water changes, no overcrowding and a high capacity filter are musts.
monos and scats are not suitable for a home tank unless one has at least 6ft for a school of 6 and above...where they are much happier.
they average out at 15-20cm but coz they are very actie swimmers, they need more space than their size suggest. they are suitable for an open water setup
archers are suitable for mangrove/tributary setups.
