This guide will use Irfanview as the photo resizer program. You can download it here.

Step 1: Open up the application. You should see this screen.

Step 2: Open up the picture to be resized using the File-Open. In this case I'm using a rocky shoreline picture.

Step 3: It's time to resize the image. Click the menu as shown below, or simply press Ctrl-R.

Step 4: You'll see this menu. On the right there're some standard dimensions of pictures that you can select. I recommend 800x600 pixels because that is the biggest you can go without skewing the screen when you post a image here. On the left you can manually type in the dimensions you desire.

Mods, just wondering if you'll "enable" the BBCODE for IMG size tags so we can size it accordingly in the post rather than edit/resize the actual picture itself before posting (the other stickies).

    Curious. Thanks in advance

That is not a good practice. If we do that, then we will end up with lots of threads with large images and each time someone opens such a thread they will be downloading very large files and that will greatly increase downloading time.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Re: Guide to Resizing your Photos

    Hi Vinz,

Thanks for the response - however, I think the image size (in pixels) displayed does not correlate with the (file)size of the image ie, a larger image (pixels shown onscreen) does NOT imply a larger file (in kB) downloaded. The resize tags is simply 'stretching' and for all intended purposes - 'shrinking' the displayed image, the size of the file downloaded remains the same.

I believe the current vBulletin server may already have the "limiter" in place to prevent large images from being displayed (downloaded). :-)

    Thanks for the consideration.
