    Just gotten a external flash and was trying it out perhaps can comment on the below shot on how to improve.Shots are taken with a 18-70mm kit lens

    Not that I'm a good photographer but if you are using Canon, get a ST-E2 so that you can place your flash on top of your tank. The effect will definitely improve.

    Nicky,

    ccs uses a Nikon D70s digital SLR. Canon does not have a kit lens that's 18-70mm.

    His camera already comes with a commander mode so he has wireless in built into the camera. The equivalent of the ST-E2 for Nikon should be the SU-800.

    Good pictures with excellent details. I think you can consider cropping the Apistogramma pictures. I'm sure it will be more impactful.

    Well you could actually edit it in photoshop. Increase the contrast and brightness. That and unless you're shooting like choy and editing is unacceptable you can use a higher ISO and remove the noise with http://www.neatimage.com

    Hmm Nicky thanks for the tip was placing the flash slightly above the fish.Will try out putting on the top of the tank tip.

    OK never clean the but glass that aside. Tried placing the flash on top of the tank.

    always use a credit card to scrap the glass first, then let the stuff settle before shooting. otherwise damn wasted if you get a perfect pose with perfect sharpness and perfect exposure, only to be obscured by the dirt.

    OUCH!!! What a waste!! Look at the blue color sheen on this baby!!!

    Well, one thing is for sure, you better show us another picture when you clean up that glass!! Great improvement of the last two pictures.
