The pH 4/7 solution comes in a bottle and cost about S$5 to S$7 and can be used for years.
There is no alternative to using this solution if you need accuracy. If you don't need accuracy, then don't measure.

My friend taught me to use mineral water which has it PH labelled. So you could calibrate your PH pen with it. A cheap alternative.
I think you could also get some PH neutral solution from pharmacy and do it. Anyway the point it the PH of the solution is accurate as it's stated then you can correctly calibrate your PH pen.
It is indeed a cheap alternative... But I believe that it also depends on how long that bottle of mineral water (not distilled water) has been placed on the shelf...
Exposing the water to the sun and heat will change the pH property, just like the pH calibration solution...
