I have got this cichlid (in the photo below) whose identity I am not particularly sure of.

If I go by the Aqualog Southamerican Cichlids III, it looks like it could be a Nandopsis friedrichsthalii.
What do you guys think it is?

    First bet is a managuense.

too short bodied to be a motaguense.
too pale to be a freidie.
we both know how a loisellei looks like.

It doesnt look 100% managuense to me also.
    No i doubt cuban blood.

for a female managuense, tail too big and a bit too colourful
for a male, body a bit too small, head a bit too small.

If thinking abt hybrid, it will be extremely hard...but actually i guess it is.But anything can be...i even can see JD head shape and body shape to a certain extent.

it can be hard...for a fish may not also turn out to have all traits.
I would not have guessed managuense in your Manaconda if you had not mentioned!

i see some managuense, some JD, a bit of fredie...
    loisellei? maybe the face marking

    haha

so Jason what do you think is this fish ?

    A friedie with a big tail ?

I know motaguense is out because body shape is very wrong. Jag body also not like that.

has the head of smaller guapotes

    ok
i feel that colour will change with tank surroundings and situation
But shape and finnage cannot run

my main query is the head shape actually. Seems a little smallish. How big is this guy?

About 30cm in length. Actually can roughly agar from the wall tiles at the back - about 3 tile-width in length.

Yah, I think it is a rather ugly specimen of the fredie.

BTW, I bought 4 sajica from c328. they are eating happily with the 30 baby blockheads.
