Livebearers, as you may already know, have "things" on the males which makes them just like mammals. In this thread I will make a record of all the "things" I come across… and btw the proper name for the "thing" is a Gonopodium.

record of the "things" are very important as it is one of the traits to differentiate the various species.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

    Interesting hooks.

Does the size matter when it comes to female mating preference? Also read somewhere that they have larger gonopodiums in predator-free environments than in predatory environments.

    Any literature?

Choy! What a thing to do....

BTW - I read that some hybrid male Swordtails with extra long gonopodiums cannot breed. So better check the stock before buying.

But seriously, Choy. Nowadays where to find the original green Swordtail?
They have been selectively bred till looking orange today.

Excellent shots as usual Choy. I've seen Phalloceros caudimaculatus in SG before, if my eyes did not fail me. You might be surprised how the bags of feeders can contain some weird fish.. :P

not knowing enough about livebearers, I'd probably pass them off as yucky hybrids!
