could it be some insects that happen to have found home in your tank? Esp when our planted tank mostly don't use a cover

I believe it preys on little fishes. Dragonfly nymph or something like that. Quite a few of our members had it previously in their tanks.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
yah, probably some insert found home in your tank. if really what benny said it prey on something, remove it.
I don't think dragonfly nymphs make cocoons using leaves.
Is it worm like? If it is worm like, it is not a dragonfly nymph. Those have look like insects.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
That's a caddisfly larvae I think. The come out at night mostly. Watch how they eat up your soft leave plants.... I had 5-7 Blyxas when I started before my major rescape, they destroyed all but 3... they are not harmful to fauna but to flora, yes.

Refer to the link, there's a photo of it that I fished out which a fresh blyxa leaf. Total of about 9 to 10 of them I killed... horrible buggers. Just watch at night, you'll end up seeing a leaving bouncing up and down your lawn that's when you know its a caddisfly larvae on the prowl.
Kill or remove them before they destroy your flora!
