Was departed from KL at 5am towards Bentong->Raub->Kuala Lipis->Gua Musang->Kuala Krai. 5 hours drive. 2 permanent road blocks and few speed trap in between Bentong n Kuala Lipis.

After the Kuala Lipis, the fog everywhere is early morning. Feeling like i am in cameron or genting.
Stop somewhere at Gua Musang. Imagine if i can make the smaller size of this mountain inside my tank...

Arrived Kuala Krai at 10:30am. Stop twice to take pictures and breakfast. After another round of Blunch...we start our journey to Sg. Sam.

Here is the stream with C.affinis. There are 4 different looks of affinis found in here. First saw the emersed growing on the gravel which is hard to unroot. The leaves are short and green.
2nd look is submersed. But very near to water surface. Slow flow location. The leaves are brown or reddish. short but narrow.
3rd is submersed as well. Deep inside the water. Around 1-3 feet deepth. Leaves are reddish, narrow n long.
4th is submersed. But in the strong flow water. Leaves are long and green on top and reddish at the bottom.

    Check out the stream.

Friends busy collecting the crypts for me.

Long, greenish and beautiful affinis in fast flowing water.

Was trying to take this wood with the moss out. End up i found the wood is 7 footer long lying on the stream.

After that, we went to few places but got no luck with the crypts or fishes. Due to lodging activities going on. Most of the beautiful streams was destroyed. So we decided to back to hotel and have a rest for another long journey tomorrow.

Another 2 friends from KL joined us on 2nd day early morning at 8am. The town covered by fog again in the early morning.

We don't want to waste the time and continue the journey after the breakfast. The destination is Pasir Puteh which an hour drive from Kuala Krai.
We was stop in some kampung area. Found there is a wider stream under the bridge. We stop the car...found CRYPTS! (My target is on crypts. no fishes. But friends caught the Harlequin, Scissortail, loaches, barb...etc.)
Found 2 pails was full with pipe water which leaking from the water pipe under the bridge.

I can't wait...just took out my shirt n jump inside the stream. The stream full with rubbish. Sad to see that...

    Some dry crypts.

Some unhealthy crypts. Suspecting it is cordata var zonata. The flower bulb..which not yet fully bloom. Friend took the picture which with yellow color flower.

After that, busy with collecting it and checking out for others stuff. Forgotten to take the picture. I will post again once i got the pictures from my friend.

The 'cordata var zonata' which nearer to water surface and brighter location are with the shorter stem and smaller size of leaf. Those deep inside the water 3-4feet deep growing with very long stem and the leaf size is around my palm size. But then...i have to suffer the water leeches attacking and donating blood while taking out the crypts.

    Dom,

Great field report! Thanks for sharing.

Shame to hear about the logging activities destroying the environment.

Hope the crypts didn't melt when you return home.

    Cheers,

There are more pictures in my friend's camera. coz she is the one in charge of taking picture while we were busy with collecting plants n netting. Waiting for her to send me the pic....

I kept the crypts inside the styrofoam boxes. Covered with a piece of wet newspaper. All doing well and none of them melt. All the fishes was keeping inside the styrofoam box without any air pump. And none of them died....

Dom, I don't think that is Crypt. cordata variant zonata. It should be cordata variant cordata. There is no record of zonata in Semenanjung.

compared the crypt page and found it is the closer look. But then Roland said it might grown different in different water condition.

let me show you the rest of the pic...

    The river in Pasir Puteh.

    The flower...So it is?

Busy with collecting the crypts and don't care about the leeches attack.

After that river, we went to another small river which was told by the kampung boys. It is located in the rubber plantation.
