Got a sample emersed form of Star Grass (could be a related species, someone can ID?) from Teo's a few days ago and floated it in the tank. Some nice looking purple flowers appeared today.
And here's a good comparison of the leaves grown emersed (round shaped) and submersed ("star" shaped) just beneath the round leaf.

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

came across this ... hope it's useful

no idea
it could be eichornia spp though
eich. diversifolia
I've got some growing in the tank, 28d cel water or less essential.
Interesting. Now I realise the round floating leaves resembling Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes). Didn't expect them to be related.
I noticed that the purple flowers are bigger and different than those of Star Grass.

KF, I am confused. Is the first pic (purple flower) really the emersed form of Star Grass? Where is this Eichhornia sp coming from?

no, the picture is not showing star grass.

h zosterifolia

picture is showing
eich diversifolia
so what's this comparison with the star-shaped leaves? I'm still confused []

nothing at all,
the plant in the picture posted at the top is e. diversifolia not STAR GRASS.
wrong identification of plant.
Choy: In the 2nd picture above, notice that there are elongated leaves growing from the stem beneath the round leaf? The round leaf is emersed form, the other is the submersed form.----------------

Sorry - should't have said "star-shaped leaves".
BTW - agree with loupgarou that the above plant is not Star Grass but Eichhornia diversifolia. Thanks.
The flower of Star Grass actually look like this (from a Japan website):

thanx juggler and chris, still look very chio hor. One day can drop by and chope some along with spare Star Grass (the real ones). I think should look better than frogbits.

the e. spp i've seen til now all resemble sickly star grass, not only in the colour but also the shape
star grass has a nice sharp point at the leave while the e. spec don't
