I think its up to the tank maker to advise u on those things.. IMO, my 6ft is ard 15mm thick.. i think rubber mat is much heavy thus add extra weight..

If my memory don't fail me, 1/2" is about 13mm. Should be thick enuf IMO. Like what Simon has pointed out, let the tank maker decide on how it should be done. Unless you know exactly what you doing, the tank makers should make most of the decision on safety expects. If anything happen they should be held responsible.

The foam they provide will be a 1piece 6ft foam, very thick, thicker then normal foams.

    15mm should be the minimum

if any tank maker should want to get by with thinner ones, dont accept. It will save you a lot of worries later on.

yes the reinforcement you mentioned is standard.

if you worry, then you can
    1) keep the tank empty for 1-2 wks for silicon to fully cure (lots of buffer already)
    2) fill up tank with water only and let it stand for another week or so.
    3) check for tank bowing silicon peeling off or....
    4) then fill it up with plants, fishes, gravel,.....

I think the akoh case is juz plain bad luck.. Allen, no offence hor. Silicon peeling off does not usually happen, but in Akoh's case it did cos.... well, nobody is perfect.

Silicon wise, I would prefer the black type cos:
    1. Looks better, more stylish
    2. Alage growing on it is not easily visible
    3. Imperfection are not easily noticable

    Deck,
Seriuos har... 6ft tank. My dream is still to own a 6ft tank... don't know when it will come true.
    Cheers!!

It is a city which bustles with industry and craft, commerce and culture, art and science.
