hi folks, i'm new to this plant forum but am willing to learn from you lot,

why when you buy crypt's do the leaves wither after you have put them in your tank, i bought 4 types of them the wendtii 'tropica' leaves are dropping now, i also got crypt x willisii"lucens" they seem fine, crypt wendtii'mi oya'
they are starting to wither and crypt parva which are fine, ive never seen this one before.
so can anyone explain to me why they're leaves drop please.
    cheers mick
btw the plants originated at tropica in holland.

Cryptocoryne melts aka "drop their leaves" when conditions change for them. Different speices of cryptocoryne react differently to changes in conditions, so some plants melt while others don't.

Crypt parva doesn't melt in my experience. I cut off most of their emersed leaves before planting. Submersed leaves will appear after about 2 months... They're possibly the slowest growing plant in aquaria. Anubias is a bullet train compared to them.

I can't say for sure, my patience wore out and I dumped the plants after they started getting overrun by glosso. According to Tropica though, they grow to 5-10cm.

i'll leave it where it is until i get bored with it that is, it's great how many plants you get out of them tropica pots, i think out of the parva pot i got 8 plants but the others had quite a few in them.

pls try not to re-arrange the cryt position upon planting, that will cause a certain degree that the cryt might melt away too...
