Last Monday night was a beautiful evening in the silk farm of Pueh in western Sarawak. I was shocked to see the bright moonlight in the countryside. (there is no "light polution" over there)

Below are some pictures in a hill of silk farm (one & only in Malaysia):

    Good morning Pueh!

The silk farm at Pueh. This is the only silk farm in Malaysia.

Pokok Malberi (Malay name) / Mulberry (English name) is planted in plantation of the silk farm. scientific name of Mulberry is Morus alba. It is the food plant for the silkworm (caterpillar of Oriental Silkmoth; Bombyx mori)

Rhinoceros beetle (Chalcosoma sp.) -Probably Chalcosoma atlas.

Ever since i was young, I wanted to collect this beauty....& now my dream came true!!! YESSSSSSS!!!!

Yes...in Bako National Park near Kuching, the bearded pigs searching for food in front of the tourist....less than 3m away!!! It is a protected NP, so wildlife does not shy at all over there. If u want to visit Kuching next time, DO NOT MISS this place.

The horn of Xylotrupes is much longer than Chalcosoma.....so I think is Chalcosoma. (refer to "Insects of Borneo")

From the first picture it looks like theres a y shaped front "horn" which is why i first thought it was a Xylotrupes. Not all Xylotrupes needs to have a long "horn" .. for example X. gideon beckeri has a relatively short "horns". If its Chalcosoma then it still wont be C. atlas.. because there a little nodge missing...and the "horns" are just too vastly different..
From the second close up picture, it does look more like a Chalcosoma....then most prob it'll be C. moellenkampi.. judging from the shapes..or at least variant of it..

Check your books and let me know if i'm right..and this is all off the top of my head.. i haven't done this for a while but i still hope i'm good enough..i love beetles!!

The night sky looked just like day with the long shutter speed.. interesting.. the stars would be totally marvelous if it was a cloudless night...
