this is not a perverted question,
i was looking at the 2 male M naponis and both males had what looked like a tube protruding from the vent, at first i thought it was worms but a closer look made me realize it was more like an ovipositor commonly seen in cichlids.
so the question is have any of you lads noticed anything similar, i will put a close-up pic of the naponis later today.
    (this is not a joke)
    cheers, mick

I can't say much since I don't breed fishes, but it really looks interesting.
    A little off-topic:
How come googling ovipositors turn up results of it being present in female fish?

    mick,

pretty much the same thing happens for discus.
and they are large enough for you to see with the naked eye.
it happens a couple of days before spawning.
and this is the only time sexing the fish can be certain.

    hi celticfish
i know that most cichlids show thier tubes but it's unusual to find it in characins, plus the females are more dominant than the males, it's just that ive bred a lot of characins and this is the first time ive seen a tube on them.
