I just read a book by the pioneer of landscaped tanks, Takashi Amano. In it, he mentioned this fish called Korean Paradise Fish, which is a cousin of Betta (Siamese Fighting Fish), and has the same temperament, mate the same way too.

Has anyone seen this fish in lfs (Singapore)?

Here's a pic of the fish

Hi Blue12, I've seen only the blue version b4. Saw it at Tiong Bahru a while back then, at the six finger guy lfs.

Your picture shows the Chinese paradise fish, Macropodus opercularis. The Korean/Japanese species (Macropodus occelatus) is less colourful and lacks body stripes. The Chinese species is sometimes available here, but never seen the Korean one.

Thanks for the replies! And what's the caveat that was mentioned? Could it be that the fish should not be kept in a community tank?
