BJs aren't that tough (to grow). Assuming you have bright light (2.5 W per gallon or more), CO2 injection, soft water, some liquid fertilisation and no plant-eating fish, the main thing that would cause them to melt is rough handling (try not to damage the stems while planting, use a tweezer), maybe a temperature shock or reaction to some extreme (high nitrates??).

    b. japonica (no way in hell i'm gonna abbreviate it the way you did ) is a very accomodating plant
you need to keep a few things in mind when you're planting it
do NOT trim excessively before putting into your tank
you're sure to bruise it badly
just plant it in, and let the dead leaves decompose
they don't need really strong light, but they turn red in strong light, very nice
as for nutrients, any nutrient regime should do
ime any tank with healthy plants can take in blyxa japonica and grow it well

and when it's in your tank, don't disturb it any more than you have to
even if it rots to the base, leave it, it might still be able to recover
in fact, i've had blyxa grow out from the gravel which was thoroughly washed

i am getting to like BJs more and more .
seriously, the ones i got (from another AQer) seem to be growing upward and sidewards very quickly (contrary to the books saying it's a slow grower). It nearly doubles in size within two weeks. The ones at ah Tan's though are very reddish but dun seem to get so big, wonder why?

Saw very nice usage of Blyxa aubertii (a taller species) in planted tanks in Thailand. it has a softer texture compared to the similar Cyperus helferi and looks really good with the tips spreading out over the surface.

Vincent - thanks! Yours was the only batch of BJ that seem to be able to survive in my 2 tanks. They are growing nicely and slowly.
My earlier experiences with the plant ended in failure.

Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
