Hi guys. I'll be moving house end of next month. Hoping to get tips from you guys on how to move my 3ft planted tank to my new home. The issues I'm concerned with are:
    - any good reliable contacts to transport the tank safely?
    - I'm thinking of throwing away my substrate and getting new substrate, any recommendations?
    - I'm also thinking of getting a MH light (150W) set. Do you guys think this is enough or overkill for a 3ft planted tank? I have one 2x36 PU and one 2x30 PL light sets right now.

By the way, I found a lighting shop in Serangoon North that's selling MH lighting set at around $280. Shop owner says the lighting set is imported from Europe or something. The whole things looks just like the Bioplast pendulum MH lighting I've seen.

A 3 feet tank can fit the back seat of your car easily if you own one. If not, the typical house movers can do it for you. Just tell them beforehand so they can bring proper packing materials.

what I did when the last time I sold off my 2ft planted tank

    1) remove all the plants, fishes & decoration (driftwood/stone)
    2) drain off water and bag up 1/2

go to the new place, put everything in place, replant pour in the tank water and fill up with freshwater as in doing water change

Hope I don't need to move soon...wife always mention that..sigh!

Seen those LFS going for some show. What they did is removing 80% of the water and they move from here. Just top it up when you reached there.

Do you think you want to tear down you tank? Siong Siong, don't forget you still need to unpack your other stuff..

Hi, wks. The lighting shop selling the MH light is Hing Yuen Electrical Co (Tel 62867897). They need about 3 days to deliver the MH lights (if no stock).

Anyway, my concern is getting the tank and cabinet to the new home safely. So I would rather seek help from someone who has done it before.

I was also thinking of re-planting and upgrading some of the "components". The substrate I'm using is more than a year old and portions of it near the surface, I can see some algea growth through the glass, or is darker in colour due to oxidation of the base fertilizer. I'm hoping to replace my substrate, and found the discussion thread on "substrate type" interesting. Any other ideas or recommendations?

    gmach,
If you're thinking of changing yur substrate, then there is nothing else you can do but to tear down the whole tank.
    Cheers!!
