The closest thing I heard was of my uncles in Malaysia converting my grandfather's petrol/diesel car into a steam car during World War 2.

True or not? I don't know. But then, why would my mum make up a story like that? I can imagine my uncles making up a story like that for their own egos, or whatever, but my mum?

    Vinz,

Why would they want to convert a diesel into steam? The engine would take up a tremendous amount of space. Not to mention how the flywheel is to couple to the gearbox.

I rebuilt my '73 Alfa Romeo Spyder's engine. Took me over 2 months to get it up and going. The kids in the video are professionals. They have all the tools and that assembly rack will help so much... flipping the engine block upside-down to install the ends to the con-rods... sooo nice when you have the right tools.

Because during World War 2, unless you happened to be a high-ranking officer, you are unlikely to get your hands on any petrol or diesel easily.

Back to thread, OK, how about this: Tools. It's the guy's tools that make the assembly of the motor all so fun to do. Example: try fitting on the big-ends to the cranshaft juornals without his rotating assembly rack device. No fun at all.
