Sorry if this is at the wrong section.

My tank has a snails bloom lately, MTS (Malayan Trumpet Snail) and small ramshorn.
At first I tried to manually remove them, catching average 20+ a day. Then I get a small puffer. Within a week there are no snails in sight ! But the poor puffer looked hungry and it is not interested in the flakes food which the other fishes enjoy. What can I feed the poor thing ?

You can try feeding it frozen bloodworms.

That time I had a puffer to control the MTS population. All snails disappeared as well, but it was because they actually went into hiding. After I removed the puffer, they started appearing again!

Not limited to frozen bloodworms only. They will in fact take ANY frozen/live food (bloodworm, brine shrimp, tubifex, daphnia, beefheart, shrimp etc).

I'm trying to catch my puffer for the past 2 months.... trying to get rid of it.. fella has been nipping my other fishes' fins... I'd rather have snails compared to 1 puffer!

And yes, they eat bloodworms.. pretty fast in fact.

Puffers are meat-lover, bring it down to Sixth Ave Brazil Churrascaria for a feast.

GreyFox, what kind of puffer you have in there? Mine's a dwarf, doesn't cause any problem to other fishes or plants. It's true that once the bugger is removed, snails returned. So I keep my dwarf puffer on a rotating routine - 2 weeks in my outdoor Lotus pot, the other 2 weeks in the tank.

It's the same as yours a dwarf.

Maybe yours is probably tamed? Mine's pretty much a nuisance, saw the fella trying to nip my discus... and I am still trying to catch it....

    *sigh*

The little fellow spent just a week to clean all the snail up !
Then I moved it to a temporary shelter (a tub at the balcany with lots of floating plant and that overgrown SAE).
But a week later snails all came out from hiding so I will recruit it back to the tank again.

Try live brine shrimps or frozen blood worms. My puffer fish is always the first fish to rush for the frozen BW I throw in.
