Alright I discovered a tiny strand of BGA today on my front glass substrate. BGA is triggered by low NO3, right? And it can't be a water problem since it's on the front and I frequently disturb the area by cleaning and maintainence of my glosso.

Thing is, I'm dosing 1/4 teaspoon of KNO3 on alternate days! Should I go higher then? Is it abnormal to dose 1/2 teaspoon of KNO3 on a 2ft tank?

A strand? The BGA I had before looked like thin green film on surfaces (glass, wood, nanas, etc). Just rub them off the surfaces and siphon them away.

1/2 teaspoon of KNO3 adds quite a bit of NO3 to a 2ft (60L?) tank right? I only add 1 teaspoon of KNO3 to my 4ft (270L) tank very week and I can see a steady buildup in a month. Then again, I don't change water that often

A few factors that may contribute to BGA growth:

    1. Poor water flow
    2. Low O2 (not exactly sure, but I suspect it)
    3. Low N
    4. Organics (not sure too, suspected)

My tank sees bubbling in 3 hours after lights on. Organics might be the very possible problem... I seem to keep having lots of fish/shrimp dung stirred up whenever I wave my hand around.

I too had that, a little BGA but after scrubbing and siphoning, it started to spread... and in the end I had non choice but to do a blackout for four days.

After which it disappeared. My problem then was due to poor water flow however I've corrected this and currently am BGA free (I hope for good!)

yeah, point stronger water flow at that area and it will go away by itself (from my past experience)

It will make localized spots along the gravel wall face.

It's somewhat common, I attack it when I do my cleaning.
You should clean the gravel around that area often for a few weeks and it should not be an issue

When mulm plugs the flow from above, then the BGA can get these low NO3 regions, since NO3 etc is not able to flow in. It might not be that, but it does have to do with clogged old substrates, clean ones with good NO3 never seem to have it.

I just clean it off clean the gravel good and it never gets out of hand.
