Just to share with you guys that I just bought one from lighting shop at Serangoon North at around $280 today. Very excited and intend to fix this up next week, and move my 3ft planted tank over for the new setup.

Need some advices, what should be the distance between the MH light and the tank/water surface? When I set up the tank again, is it possible to reuse my substrate by just washing it and putting it back? Or need to get new substrate?

    actually
lighting shops along balestier have it for an even better price i believe
you might want to look there for future MH investments

as for the tank gravel, do you have base fert? if you do, washing will not be able to remove all of it
usually what people do is they mix the old gravel up and use THAT as the bottom layer, and cover it with new gravel

the distance ranges from 15 to 30cm
    YMMV

I am currently using DIY 4x70W MH spread out above my 5ft tank. But the bulbs only 4200K, so it is a bit yellowish. Brand of MH bulbs called Philips Powertone. The bulbs and pendants are given to me by Jeffrey. All my equipment i.e MH lights, 2 filters, solenoid, chiller and UV are connected to a 4 plugs extension from a main power point. So far no problem.

The pendants will be very hot. In my case, my tank is also placed in the hall. Try to place the lights in such a way that the rays from the MH dun shine on you. Another thing is, when the MH is switched on, the whole hall will be very bright. Save electricity from your other hall lights. []

2 filters, 1 solenoid, 2 MH shoudn't trip your CB IF you don't other high power equipment running in the same circuit. Normally 1 CB protects quite a number of socket outlet. So pluging in different doesn't help much unless the socket outlets are from diffferent circuits.

Deck, just plug it in. Should be ok.

deck, u can use brackets mounted on the wall... there is MH hood which u can place on the tank itself

as for wattage, depend on yr plants.. 2x150w for low and mid light plants.. more for high light plants

one more thing, get a 0.60m deep tank, by the time u put in yr gravel and base fert, u r barely left with much and that means u gotta do maintenance more often

hmmm... sherwin... Thanks for the advise..... lucky the tank is still on the drawing board.... while i am getting all the material and equipment ready.....

have to change my size to 6x2x2...... so riccia and glosso will need more like 300watt x 2

must go and find the MH hood which u can place on the tank itself .... dun know if balestier have or not
