    Hi Guys

I have set up my own auto water top up system for my marine tank. The process is shown at the gallery. Here is how I do it.

    http://arofanatics.com/members/adrianli/autowatertopup/

    1. Bought a float switch for S$20 at Sim Lim Tower.

    2. Got a used pump and cut its wires as shown in the pics.

    3. Connect the float switch and pump as shown in the pics.

    4. Place the float switch in the sump at the desired position.

    5. Get a pail with pump and hose connect to the tank.

    6. Wow lah !!! There you have it, as simple as ABC.

Now no need to top up the water daily!!! As I am using a fan to cool down the water, the sump level get very low very fast everyday. Now just have to top up the water in the pail (reservoir) weekly only.

If you guys got any comments, feel free to ask me. Just reply this post.

    Hi

Do not put ur hose into the water. Let it hang at the edge of the tank, like that no water from the tank will return to the pail (reservoir).

    Hi

I'm using a pail as the reservoir. Need to top it up once a week only. As I do weekly water change for my arowana, just place the hose into the pail. Anyway I got a very long hose from the toilet to all the fish tanks.

    No sweat at all.

Woulndn't the pail seem unsightly? I've considered the same deisgn before but my wife disagree as the water left stagnent for few days might breed mosquitos....

    Juz my $0.02

guys.. can consider getting a cube or 2ft tank as reservior tank lor..

sherwin, to prevent mossies.. can put in a molly lor..alternatively, u can put a small powerhead to circulate the water too.. that is what i do for my former 3ft marine tank...

If the water totally drain out how... me consider this topping up system as I frequently away on projects. The main reason why I foregoed this 'top up' thingy is the lack of space. If got some more space it will be another fish tank......

well.. with the top up tank.. firstly u dun have to top up every day.. if it is hidden like in my case, i just open the cabinet every 2 days or so to check the water level in the reservoir tank.. []

Hmmmm....it's a good idea to install a overflow back to the sump in case the switch get stuck in the on position.

As for mossies... cover the sump well.

How long before still water becomes stagnant? Will intermitten aeration help?
