Lost 8 of my tube-mouthed pencilfish (Nannostomus eques) over the weekend. No visible symptoms at first, then they'll trash about for about 5 to 10 mins, then dead...

Anyone know what it was that killed them?

    Thanks.

Yep. There are 2 left and they seem fine so far. All the 8 took turns to die on Sunday. I've been counting my other fishes daily (2 rams, 3 otos, 2 saes, 10 pygmy gouramis, yamato shrimps) and no casualities (touch wood) so far.

Nope. The pencilfish have been in my tanks for months with no problems. The new fishes were the gouramis which were added 2 or 3 days before the deaths. Maybe the gouramis were carrying a disease that only affected the pencilfish.

How big are your gouramis? I dunno, maybe your pencil fishes died of stress from these new big fellas.

Nope. Pygmy gouramis are about 2 cm in size an won't get much bigger. And they were not going after the Pencilfish. I literally see the poor fellas die before my eyes cos it only takes them 5-10 mins.

i have the same prob in my community planted tank. i suspect it's an internal bacterial infection. i lost 3/4 of my tank population in this week. tough luck.
