Hi
Just want to ask if you guys know if pressure cooker is allowed in singapore?? you know the one where can cook meat, etc and it blows steam etc.? asking that because apparently in australia or UK they are not allowed.
So would want to get some info before i bring one back, in case it is not allowed here either?

I'm sure it's not banned here. Just saw a couple of those in Metro and John Little last week during the Sales.
Btw my mum had been using one for years....used to get horrified over the pressure Hzzzzzzz.....sound when i was young.
The only thing you got watch out for is the elastic band around the cover and a pressure release valve that might get harden over years and if it's crack, it's dangerous if its not replace. The food whatever you are cooking would volcano up the ceiling
Check with the seller if you could buy those replacement in Singapore easily. Get those common brand!
Cheers!
Yup. A lot of folks use them in Singapore. Easily avaliable too and cheap. Might not be worth you while to lug one all the way back.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
My cousin in U.k (liverpool) told me she cannot use that in her flat. And also some of my friends in australia telling me the same thing.
Okie. Then i can bring one.
Benny : I do not want to refuse gift (that sums it all : ) ) ( have spare kgs anyway, 40kgs
i live next door to liverpool i'm in manchester which is 30 minute drive away, maybe it's just a flat rule of the place where your cousin is staying?.
but ive never heard of a total ban, as i don't think there is one.

Up in the higher elevations in Nepal, we can't live without one because rice cant get cooked properly without a pressure cooker.

Hi
i do not know who told you pressure cookers are illegal in oz (honey hide the pots the police are on there way ) but I have several and on holidays found them in most of the caravans and cabins we rented ? weird
Water boils at lower temperature when atmospheric pressure is lower. Pressure cooker artificially increases back the pressure.Originally Posted by celticfish

?? i thought KFC cook their chicks with pressure cookers to seal in the juices.. correct me if i am wrong.
It's probably a rule for tenants living in the Flat. My Uncles, one in Manchester and another in Liverpool have pressure cookers at their homes and when they do turn in on, there were no sirens when I was there on holiday.
And its not banned in Singapore as mentioned by the rest.

You're half correct. The chicken pieces are fried in the pressure cooker to shorten the cooking time. It is a precise ratio of timing : temperature : weight of meat : pressure, the amounts of which is a loosely guarded secret.Originally Posted by gummynut
If you fry chicken for too long, it is dry and tough; too short and the bone marrow is raw. When Oil get too hot, the outside is burnt before the insides get cooked. So pressure cooking it is a solution.
OTOH, KFC's better looking, jucier chicks usually get taken long before they get near to the pressure cooker, leaving only the old aunties to potter around with us cooks in the rear
I used to earn $3.50 an hour working as a cook in 1983. Anyone know the going rate now?
