DEA, my friend is using an Astro filter..

thanks also lsz for pointing out some of the problems..

Anyone knows whether the 2222 is good for a 3 ft tank cause supposedly it supports only up to 150 liters and upon calculation by my friend says his is about 162 liters...i understand that have to minus off the gravel and stuffs so it is good enough liao?

Hey BT, shop selling at 128 even for a piece...that cheap!!

    basically with Eheim canisters,

i will take the tank size recommended and halve it.

so if it is recommended for 600l tank, i will use it for 300l tank.

again the Big question is what kind of setup?
A well stocked african cichlid community definitely needs a great deal more filtration than a densely planted tank with smaller fish.

2222 for me is definitely out.
    2224 is OK....
2226 will get you covered for almost all possibilities.
(if you think long term, get a 2226. if price is a concern, feel the pinch once but you will never ever regret. )

the question is just which end of the scale do you think you are at?

for me, i'll go for the largest i can afford
if ever you need to upgrade tanks, you'll save yourself hassle

my 2ft custom is upgrading to a 2ft tall cuboid
    the 2224 will stay

    Alright man..
    Thanks for all the views..
I also think that Eheim is better and just a little bit more expensive might as well get a better technology ones..
    =)

    Hi all,

For the ATMAN filter, does it comes with all the filter media and accessories. ??

As for the canister filter, do you all put the OUT valve to full blast or just control them till the water surface is calm..

BT, where is the warehouse located at MacTaggart Rd that sells Ehiem filters..any address, company name or exact location would be helpful...

do they sell any other things ??

I also own a 2 ft tank. I use the overhead filter that comes with the tank. Flowrate is 300l/hr which means cycling the water in the tank about 4-5 times per hr. So far so good with no cloudy water problem and changing the filter is a breeze ... just take out and throw away without dismantling anything. With the hood on, it looks like a typical Japanese tank. Only problem is heat as I replaced a 18w with a 36w bringing the total to 54w. I put in a DC fan timed to run with the light to cool it down.

I'm sure all the brands mentioned will work very well. My advice is ... keep it within your budget as the costs will escalate as you progress. More importantly, do you think you will be into it for a long time. Like a car or PC, there are many expensive options you can add ... but if what you need is something to drive around or type a few reports, the money is better spent elsewhere. Think about it for a while ... as an aquarium is a long term investment which will take time and patience. For myself, I haven't really thought about going overseas for extended period before I got the tank.
