Someone actually built LED lighting to view his nocturnal fishes in the dark.
But are there white LEDs to light our tanks?
I have seen LED light applied in retail enviroment as well as the road traffic lights.....
just curious have anyone seen it use as another kind of aquarium lightings???
One great thing is heat will not be problem cos LED uses .... i think looks like circuit board so tiny (SAVES SPACE and NO HEAT!!!) but expensive.....
Do you think the LED will work???

Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
there is white one.... the last time my contractor show their sample prototype.... think of ask them to do prototype specially foe fish tank???[]
I wonder about the ability of the LEDs to penertrate water. If you do try, let us know the results. Better yet... post pictures too. Find out the K and Lumens too.

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

use those leds...
heh
There is an article in the newspaper recently about using sunlight to lit our carparks. If we can get the equipments, we might be able to pipe sunlight to tank.
Equipment looks like those from the link below. I have no intention of trying this out as the cost may be beyond my ability. I might try some white leds soon.

NASA was experimenting with LEDs to grow plants in space (from discovery channel)
also using LEDs to accelerate ulcer healing
one day not too far in the future, i think we'll be using them for day to day use
HI
When I went to Taiwan early this year I bought a LED torchlight. Its very powerful and can temporary blind ones eye when flashed on the eyes. Its in a Maglite type of casing and run on 3 AA battery. It has 4 white LED lights. In a dark room, you could see its powerful brightness.
I tried to light up my 3.5ft marine tank and it really lit up with the metal halite effect. Meaning movement of the water on the surface causing shadow like effect on the bottom of the tank.
From what I know LED uses DC current. Any electric expert out there to explain it? And how to wire it up into 3 rows of 3ft white LED? Anybody wana take up the task? If it is using DC then it would really save up on ur electricity bill even if it is turned on the whole day!!!
.... meantime... still in design pharse to use it on planted tank... once the prototype is ready will post the pictures....
hrm. great idea, maybe i'll go down to Sim Lim and set up a system at home. now all i need is some blueprints to work with. []
