oops! sorry, just realised the site doesn't allow direct linkage.
on the page, go to the top under 'tutorials' -> 'how to information' -> 'propogation tutorials' -> v'iviparous propogation'

am sorely tempted to try it but am not sure we can get 'grow lights' in singapore. i'm trying to find out what kelvin (light spectrum, me noob) range the grow lights are but not having much luck finding a definete answer.
planted aquariums use 6500k, which would be the equivalent of using a philips flourescent 'cool daylight' bulb.

i don't think the electricity bill for 16hours per day lighting should be too expensive.. hopefully...

edit: here's another example if you can't work the above link http://www.geocities.com/jeanhonolul...opagation.html

    16 hours per day!!!
hmm..i think you will see algae faster then the lily is growing. and the water will evaporate faster then usual...so on and so forth.

thus, i dont think it is cheap to grow from leave here? rather than buying the plant itself?

plant is approx $15 (at which my mom made a fuss lol), and i was hoping to find a way to reproduce it easily.

sigh, guess i'll forego trying it out then

    thanks!

yeap, water lily cost about that price. but those double petals species cost much more, and especially those special colors, ( eg. orange) cos even more, up to 40SGD per pot.

you can find them at those plants wholesaler.

not every species will propagate this way right?
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

guan: ahhh, no i won't go for such expensive ones heh heh. i've a history of being a bit of a plant killer ;p

hwchoy: nope, not every species will. you have to look for a furry or obvious nub at the centre of the leaf. the purple one from opposite farmart should be able to. maybe i'll just leave a leaf under water in the sunlight instead, will take longer than with artificial lighting but easy to try haha!

yes you are right. those "four colour" lotus also will do that.
