The plants were perfectly healthy when I transfered them from my old tank to the new setup.

Now this algae (or whatever it is) is all over the leaves and stems of my crypts. I am hoping that it is brown algae which is often associated with new setups like mine...

Do help me by taking a look at the attachments... oh, they are not furry at all, just black spots/patches... Sorry for the grainy pictures.. due to the limitations of a camera phone..

Looks like brush algae as idenified at this article http://www.aquaticscape.com/articles/algae.htm

Up the CO2 (with nutrient control) and introduce SAE should help. I found that those infected leaves would weaken. I just pull them away when they start dying.

Nono... the 1st picture I got from the web for use as reference.. The algae in my tank are the photos in the attachment... Hmm, maybe I should remove the web picture to avoid miscommunication...

btw...the tank is only 6 days old and it is supposed to be going in the non-co2, low light, zero fertilizer direction... and it comprises mainly slow growing plants such as crypts and nanas... so is there any possible solution other than to "up co2"?

    Thanks...

Try physicaly remove them, if it is too serious, pull off the affected leaf. Seachem flourish Excel helps too.
