i hope i'm right here as ive just got a trio of them, they are aplocheilichthys macrophthalmus, the other name is the iridescent lampeye.
nice looking fish when the light hits it right, the females are bland against the males.

right ive got some info for you joydiv, start with a small tank 12x8will be fine decor need only be a gravel base with a few floating wool-mops, ph 7 your temperature is fine and leave them to it, every other day check the mops for any sign of eggs, fry will need infusoria when swimming then onto bbs.
my mate says they're pretty easy.
so try it out and tell us how you went on with them.

    HI Mick

Thanks for the information. Tank space is at a premium here so they are housed with some reisei and Habrosus. Will try to breed them when i get my other tank running. It was kind of an impulse purchase as I seldom see them here.

I got myself a pair. I keep mine in a small tank on their own. The male suppose to show more iridescent blue lines. Feed them heavy with live food & you will get eggs soon. Eggs can be found on plants or sponge filter. They will 'eye up' & hatch in a week's time. Fry are super tiny with rather long tail. Feed them infusoria & micro worm.

I removed the eggs & raise the fry in a seperate small container. Take note that the fry are really tiny. Mixing them with the adult or other fish will greatly increase the risk of being eaten. Well, in a big tank, you might not see the newly-hatched fry in the first place .
