    Adds O2 from gas exchange at the surface hence the O2 would never drop to a dangerous low level even if plant growth slows down for any reason. You get to start with good amount of O2 for the fish/critters and then add enough CO2 (some would be loss through the surface movement but CO2 is cheap.) which would cause the plants to add more pure O2 to the water via H2O splitting.
