It's not easy to just tie the riccia to the DW without most of it to float off unless you really wind it very closely. The best way is to cover it with plastic mesh.

Will the holes be too small for them to frow thu?

I have tried those supermarket nettings that were used to wrap grapes. It works fine. The holes were like 4 by 4mm, bigger if you stretch the net.

I also remember using a type of weed (a very thin, long stringy greenlike plant, got them when i bought plants from lfs) to hold down the riccia. As the 'green' coloration is very close, you cant really see them. But as they grow long and sort of creeps around, they manage to keep my riccia together.
Dont ask me what this plant/weed is called, I really have no clue. LFS dont sell it for sure.

or buy some from Fabric shop.. Ask for Tule.. it is those almost plactic texture type of frabric used in wedding gown and decor.. with holes large enough for plants to grow through and strong enouogh to last in the water.. Best of all, very cheap.. 2 dollar and you have enough to wrap yourself a few rounds..

too bad u stay in Jurong.. I actually bought $4 and I have enough to cover a few long tables..

    forgot the tying process:P

with tule, or similar netting fabrics, you can also wrap riccia as a ball, then at the back of the ball, simply twist till the ball is round and tie up the twist part.. tie the ball to a weight (must be quite heavy) and you will get floating riccia in no time.. and weight is important as full bloom riccia ball can float to surface with all the bubbles if the weight is not heavy enough..

using driftwood or rock or any thing that sink, place riccia evenly over the surface.. with tule again, you wrap the whole setup neatly with as few sewing at the bottom and that's it..

stainless steel wire mesh also work, or plastic wire mesh also work, but only good for riccia wall (plastic mesh) or riccia carpet (wire mesh)
