has anyone seen the weird Duck-bill Shark on display in GenX? It is blue-grey, maybe 8-in long, looks like a shark with a duckbill grafted on. Swims around with a weird head-swinging motion like taken dadah.

    Fresh water. $250 each.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

    they are paddlefish

grow very big if allowed to
6-8 ft no problem in the wild
should never be in the trade

they swim with their mouth open all the time
    it is a micro-feeder

yeh 8ft, origins are from the US, a relative of the sturgeon. Plankton feeder- unless u got a 20ft&8ft deep pond then u can consider getting one.
agree wif Isz, should not be for sale.& i bet none of them will make it to adulthood.
Sturgeons also should not be for sale.

paddlefish are protected species in the US. they are planktonic feeders with very primitive origins. i believe the small specimens u see for sale were smuggled in or imported in with legal shipments of other fishes. unless u have a large aquarium with the ability to handle a fish the size of an adult paddlefish, it is best to steer clear away from this fish. mortality rate is high and the cost is prohibitive. feeding it is quite a hassle as it requires tiny foods like daphnia or brine shrimp.[]
