    Hello reader...

I bought 2 fishes, called 'peaceful fighting fish' from C328.. each for $3.

It's not colourful like the typical betta fishes. Its color is brown with black strips. It's very nice.
Althought they are fighting fish, they are not the fighting type. When put together, they can live together.

I need to ID this fish as i throw flakes, frozen bloodworms, they didn't eat.
It had been about 1week. i'm afraid that they might die in another 2weeks if they don't eat.

It would be helpful for me if you could provide me a link of what food to feed them and their kind of environment.

    Thanks a lot,
    Alvin

Really sorry. i don't have picture of the fish..

It's a very distinct fighting fish [peaceful]
It's brown and black strips. No other betta has this colour - so dull.

    You get what i meant?

I used to come across this fish but i forgot. Ahhhh

    Hello back reader...

Yesyes, i've got the name of it.. it's macrostomma. I went to the net and find and i find the below link similiar to my fish.
    thank you,Wackytpt and benny.

    http://ibc-smp.org/images/macrostoma...female%202.jpg

However, my fish, upon closer look, it has a sharper and narrower head part rather than the link's picture.

Ahhh.... here.... i found another site, exactly the same as mine!
But supersize... mine is only about 1-2cm..

    thanks a lot for helping...

acrostoma is not even a betta, and don't really have stripes.

at 1-2cm your fish is a juvenile. most large Sundaland betta fries look somewhat like that at that stage. so most likely your fish is a young mouth-brooding betta. the picture in your link (so small!) looked somewhat like a Betta pugnax. At $3 you can't expect much.

I got really confused when you said it was so beautiful with the brown stripes. If you like fairly peaceful betta that are small in size, I suggest you have a look at the wine-red group of betta e.g. B. brownorum or B. coccina.

Scot worm, the last time auntie sell a pair of macrostomma, it was retailing at $198/-. Which is about 90+ per fish. Google the image for sparkling gourami and see if it's the fish. The only betta I saw going for 3 bucks is Cocinna.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

Doesn't really matter what fish it is, just provide plenty of plant cover for them and some life food like daphnias and tubifex worms and throw in a ketapang leaf. Leave them alone for a few days comming close to the tank only to feed them.

Anyway, auntie do have some Sphaerichthys acrostoma yes.
