hi guys, I have been hanging my 2x150w MH 30 cm away from my water surface of 4x1.5x2 ft tank. So far, no visible algae except GSA/GDA on glasses and nana. My red plants all showing good colors, except my e.tellenus does not turn red and grows long than desired, about 8 cm. The e.tellenus I got is supposed to be mini red form from japan that under good light should be < 4-5 cm tall.

so, I'm thinking of lowering my MH height to 25 cm to see if my e.tellenus will grow shorter and red but not sure if this will cause alage problems. Any opinions or anyone hanging less than 30 cm? Btw, I read that MH must at least be 20 cm above water surface..

Hijacking a bit.... Please share your experience. I'm thinking of investing in MH. May I know how much temperature increase after you install it at 30cm? Its the temperature that 's making me think twice.
